Rik van Maanen

Rik van Maanen

Hi everyone!
My name is Rik van Maanen and I am 25 years old. Although it feels like yesterday, I graduated approximately one and a half year ago. By doing that, I finished my Master in Accounting at Tilburg University.

Bachelor
Before I signed my diploma in the early summer of 2013, I tried to get most out of my time as a student. It all started in 2007, when I moved from the picturesque Renkum to the ‘big’ city of Tilburg. During my first years of the bachelor of Business Economics (Bedrijfseconomie) I really enjoyed the possibility of going out on any day of the week and decide the next morning whether or not you go to class. The absence of (real) obligations made student life really extraordinary for me.

The board of Asset| Accounting & Finance asked me to write a column about the life of a ‘just graduated student’. But, first of all; what is a just graduated? I still haven’t considered myself as a working person, but I also don’t feel like a student anymore. Nevertheless, I will do my best to give you all a clear picture about my new life. But first thing first, who am I and more important what were my experiences as a (master) student?

Being a graduate
My name is Susanne Bouwmeester (25) and I recently graduated from the Master of Accountancy and Management Control.

Student Life
In September 2005 I started my studies here at Tilburg University. During secondary school I never knew what I wanted to do with my future. So, I decided to choose a fairly broad study called International Business. In the first two years of my studies my focus was mainly on adapting to the student life. Settling in, getting to know all the cafes, party with my friends, and at times visit some of the lectures (but never on Friday morning). However, in the third year of my study I made the decision to start focusing more on my future.

Nadieh Elferink

My name is Nadieh Elferink, 24 years old and born in a village called Lichtenvoorde. About 1,5 months ago I graduated from the Master Finance. My working life has officially started. But before I arrived at this point, I spent five years of studying at Tilburg University.
In 2006 I started with the Bachelor Business Administration (‘Bedrijfseconomie’). I always knew I wanted to work in ‘business, but as I did not know exactly what I wanted to do, I choose a rather broad Bachelor study. During my second year in Tilburg, I started joining activities that were organized by several study associations. At the beginning of my third year I decided to join the association that matched most with my interest: study association Asset | Accounting & Finance.
